Cold Can, Dry Hand, and a Rope With a Past
Share
This bit of rope used to hang off a climbing wall. Somebody trusted it with their whole weight. Now it keeps a cold can cold and stops the wet ring on your table. That is the whole story of the new Forma can holder, and I think it is a good one.
The idea is dead simple. Wrap your can, grab the handle, done. The rope is thick and it traps air, so it holds the chill in longer than a bare can does. And because there is a rope handle on the side, your hand stays dry and warm while the drink stays cold. Good at the crag, good on the campsite, good on a Tuesday in the garden.
What a climbing rope can cooler actually does
A can on its own does two annoying things. Your hand warms the drink up, and the drink sweats all over your fingers and the table. This solves both. The rope is thick enough to keep the chill in and the condensation off your fingers. It also stops the wet ring on the wood. It is a small thing, but small things done right are kind of my whole job.
It fits a standard 330ml can. Not a slim can, so do not go trying to force one of those skinny ones in there. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth when it needs it, and please do not put it in the machine. Treat it right and it will outlast a shop-bought foam one by years.
No two are the same colour
Every can holder is made from rope that has already done its job. Climbing walls, climbers and rope access folk around Scotland send me their retired rope. It is past its safe working life but nowhere near worn out, so instead of going to landfill it ends up in your hand. That is why no two are the same colour.
Here is how the colours work. Pick a colour and you get one in that colour. So if you choose green, you get a green one. But the exact mix of flecks and stripes will be whatever rope it was cut from that day. That is the point of it. A climbing wall orders whatever the manufacturer was making that month, so I can match the colour but I cannot promise the pattern. If you want something exact, drop me a DM and we will sort a custom. Every colour is in stock right now apart from black.
If you like the sound of rope with a past, the same story runs right through the range. The recycled climbing rope coasters come from the same bench, and there is a proper spread of gifts for climbers if you are buying for someone who lives at the wall.
The last batch sold out, this one is in
The first run went completely. Thank you to everyone who grabbed one. The new batch is on the shelf now with nearly every colour back, and it is all made by hand in my wee studio in Aberdeen. As a wee thank you, the first three orders from this batch go out with a free climbing hold keyring in the box. No code needed, it just turns up.
It is the sort of thing a climber picks up and asks about, which makes it a proper gift too. It comes ready to give. If a keyring is more your budget, the rope keychains are the cheapest way into the range, and everything new lands first on the available now page.
Five kilometres of rope has come through here this year already, and this is one more way to keep it in use instead of in the ground. Less waste. More miles.
