Send Me Your Rope

Every climber I meet has one. A retired rope in the back of a cupboard, or living in the boot of the car since about 2019. You cannot climb on it. You feel sick binning it. So it just sits there.

Send it to me instead. I will make it into something.

What happens to it

It comes to the workshop in Aberdeen. I clean it, cut it and turn it into belts, dog leads, keychains, bracelets and coasters. All by hand. One 50 metre rope comes back out as roughly three or four belts, a dog lead, and a pile of keychains.

In January 2026 alone that added up to over 5 km of rope kept out of landfill.

What I will take

  • Single ropes, half ropes, twins
  • Chopped bits, and the frayed end you cut off two winters ago
  • Slings, cord and accessory line
  • Dry is better than wet. Muddy is fine, I have a bath and no dignity.

Anything too short for a belt becomes a climbing rope keychain, so none of it goes to waste.

How to send me your rope

1. Email me at george@formadesignscollective.com or use the contact page. Tell me roughly how much rope you have.

2. I will send you the workshop address, usually the same week.

3. Coil it, bag it, post it. Or hand it over in person if you catch me at a market in town.

What you get back

No cash for rope, sorry. I am a one man workshop, not a scrapyard. What you do get:

  • A photo of what your rope became
  • 15% off your next order. I send the code along with the address.
  • Your rope holding up somebody's trousers for the next twenty years instead of sitting in a hole in the ground

If you would rather have it back as something for yourself, I can do that too. A recycled climbing rope belt made from the rope you actually climbed on, cut to your exact waist, 22 to 50 inches. It is the most personal thing I make.

Tell me the story

Where you climbed it. What it caught you on. Who you were with. Stick a note in the bag and I will keep it with the coil.

That story is the whole point. "Recycled" gets scrolled past. "This rope already saved someone's life and now it's a belt" stops the thumb.

Got a rope going spare?

Send me a line and I will come back with the address and your code.
