Gifts For Trad Climbers: Skip the Kit, Buy the Story

Trad climbers are hard to buy for. They own a rack worth more than your car. They have strong views on cams. And they will tell you your gift is "fine, but I'd have chosen a different size".

So here is a better plan. Skip the kit. Buy them something that comes from the same world as their kit. That is where I come in, with a workshop in Aberdeen and a lot of retired rope.

Why gifts for trad climbers are different

Trad climbers place their own gear and trust their own rope. They care about where things come from. They also notice quality fast, because they check every piece of kit before they leave the ground.

A rope that has done its time and gets a second life is the kind of story they get. "This used to be someone's lead rope" lands better than any shiny gadget.

The best gifts for trad climbers

First, the recycled climbing rope belt. It is made to their exact waist size, from 22 to 50 inches. The 2-rope belt starts at £25 and the 3-rope belt at £30. It is built to outlast anything from a big-box store, and every one is different, because every rope was.
